Peanut Science Abstract. Peanut is presently grown in over 26 Mha worldwide with a total production of over 45 Mt. About 80% of the world peanut production comes from rainfed regions of the semiarid tropics, where the yields are generally low and variable due to erratic water deficits and elevated temperature. Peanut quality is influenced by a complex web of factors with scales ranging from the molecular to global weather patterns impacting climate. In some cases these quality factors are well understood, measured and controlled. To that end, the objectives of this study were to examine changes in yields, land use efficiency, soil erosion, irrigation water use, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions in the production of peanuts in the United States from the years 1980 to 2014. Scientists have learned that the dietary choices we make can have an impact on the blood pressure .
